Born in Ajaccio (Corsica) in 1907, Pierre Ambrogiani was an autodidact who taught himself how tu use colours and effects of matter. Friend of René Seyssaud and Auguste Chabaud, Ambrogiani was hugely influenced by the fauve paintings. Provencal landscapes, still lives, reapers, toreadors or nudes, everything is a good reason for using colours. The intensity of his works is increased by the thickness of painting he applied on the canvas, with a knife and sometimes, even with a trowel. Ambrogiani was not afraid by using violent and detonating colours. He was insolent towards the good taste. Ambrogiani was a leading figure in Marseille. He died in in the Mediterranean city in 1985.
